Update 1/28/13

We are currently reading two very beloved pieces of literature, Romeo & Juliet and In The Time of The Butterflies, in our 9th and 10th Grade Literature courses respectively.

The 9th Grade Literature class will be reading a William Shakespeare classic in Romeo & Juliet and discussing the influence of this original text on Modern Literature. William Shakespeare can be credited for many original common expressions and the class will be exploring the wide-spread impact of his writing on our culture. Not to mention, they will be creating their own common expressions while honoring the legacy of William Shakespeare.

The 10th Grade Literature  class will be reading a piece of literature close to my heart. Part of my family are from the Dominican Republic, where the story takes place, and the Mirabal sisters are widely adored in our culture.  In The Time of The Butterflies  is a story about the Mirabal sisters, a group of strong women, who protested against the terrible Trujillo Regime and paid the price of their lives. Their Martyrdom has become a source of strength to many in the Dominican Republic.
